About Us
Who are we?
In Hungary, the Lechner Knowledge Center – as a background institution to the Prime Minister’s Office – is responsible for managing and analyzing the geospatial data registers of the country, while also providing up-to-date services for public administration, cities, as well as for agricultural and residential users.
Within this framework, the Knowledge Center processes and evaluates geospatial and Earth observation data, including satellite and aerial imagery and orthophotos, collected by using remote sensing technologies. It also monitors land surface changes in Hungary and Europe, creating digital terrain and surface models, as well as land cover and land use maps of the country. The Lechner Knowledge Center also acts as an official authority performing land survey, GIS and land registry tasks, operating and developing a uniform land registry system. Its professionals carry out tasks related to state borders and geodetic reference networks, while also operating and developing the GNSSnet.hu real-time satellite positioning system. As a state administrative body dealing with geodetic and geospatial information, the Knowledge Center manages and provides basic data from the state databases.
A priority task of the Lechner Knowledge Center is to develop, operate and provide professional support for its IT applications that facilitate e-administration or relate to the e-utility system and electronic construction procedures. Guaranteeing the uniform development and operation of the IT infrastructure and the electronic services, the Lechner Knowledge Center supports construction authority tasks that are carried out by government offices.
